ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the migration of Syrian asylum seekers on voter behavior, specifically in Şanlıurfa. Comparative data analysis techniques were used in this study, and the study analyzes the results of elections held on different dates in five neighborhoods with a higher concentration of Syrian asylum seekers and five neighborhoods with a lower concentration. The study examines the results of the General Elections held in June 2015, November 2015, 2018, and 2023, as well as the Presidential Elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2023 respectively, which were held after the start of Syrian migration in 2012. According to the results obtained, in the Presidential Elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2023, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received a higher percentage of votes in neighborhoods with a higher Syrian population compared to neighborhoods with a lower Syrian population. The parties more distanced from migration, such as CHP (Republican People’s Party) did not see a significant increase in their votes in either neighborhood group.
